Rooftops and cruise ships; a Lisboa kind of view! |
Just as we would emerge from the hillside suburb where we were
staying, we would meet a small square in front of Igreja de São Domingos.
Adjacent to the church sits the barfront shop of A Ginjinha, which serves up
the cherry liqueur we had been treated to at Tabuas two nights earlier. You
will get a shot for €1.40 and can drink it right there on the square. It’s
quite the popular spot!

On this next fine morning in Lisbon, we headed across to the east
side of the city and made our way up the stairs and hills that lead to Castelo
São Jorge. The walls along the way are beautifully decorated with various
street arts and murals. There are a couple of places to stop along the way and
take in the rooftop view over Lisbon.

We explored our way around the suburb, in
and out of various souvenir shops and back down the other side of the mountain.
We happened across Miradouro de Santa Luzia, which offers a sweeping view over
the city and coastline where the cruise ships dock.
We continued down past the Lisbon Cathedral and stopped for lunch
at D. Afonso o Gordo Restaurante Típico, whose menu we had eyed previously. The
set menu of the day had some nice choices on it; unfortunately Avy wasn’t
particularly happy with hers – the food was nice, just not what she had
expected. Mine, on the other hand, was very nice!

Crossing the city back to Chiado, we stopped in for an afternoon
coffee at A Brasileira, Lisbon’s oldest coffee shop. You might struggle to get
a seat here, and when you do, you won’t have a huge amount of room! But the
service was good and the coffee very nice, and reasonably priced, too.
After relaxing back at our room for a while, we wandered out to
the Rossio area again in the evening and browsed around Rue Augusta for a
while, stopping for another fancy ice cream at Amorino before calling it a
night.
