Beautiful buildings along the north of the Saône. |
On our last day in Lyon, we set out with no particular
plan. We started with lunch, returning to our favourite haunt of Rue des
Marronniers and taking a second meal at Chez M’man, since we had enjoyed the
first one. Unfortunately, the quality was not as good this time – or rather,
our choices were a bit off. However, the lemon meringue pie for dessert was very
nice!

An unfortunately less enjoyable meal on our second visit to Chez M'man. |
|
We didn't let it sully our opinion of Lyon's wonderful food culture, though! |
|
But hey, my lemon meringue pie was delicious... and HUGE! |
We spent the day wandering and shopping through the
boutiques of central Lyon. Or rather, Avy went shopping while I followed her!
We ended up at Hôtel de Ville de Lyon, which looks much more like an old
town hall than a hotel. I bet the inside is nice! Normally, the Bartholdi
fountain operates out the front in the square, but it was under maintenance
during our visit.

Exploring this delightful city never seems to get boring. |

Hôtel de Ville de Lyon... one day, we will stay here! |
|
It was quite sad to see the iconic Bartholdi fountain covered in scaffolding. |
Our afternoon finished with crossing the bridge into
Vieux-Lyon and exploring the streets of this charming town once more. We really
loved our time in Lyon, and it was great to visit a place that wasn’t so driven
by the same old tourist sites, museums and lines.

Looking up Avenue du Doyenné.

Having said that, it was time to move along to our next
destination, for which we cannot say the same. We packed up our bags and hopped
on the tram to Gare Lyon Part-Dieu, meeting our high speed train to that one city that’s on basically everyone’s wish list...
