Four nights in the Philippines

This entry is just a quick one, and really is mostly a hotel review. After I finished up in Indonesia (see previous post, "Indonesia will please ya"), I headed up to the Philippines to visit another customer for a few days. I had four nights in the city of Cebu, towards the south of the main islands, and I stayed at the Parklane International Hotel, so this entry covers mostly my experience at that hotel.

First of all... I apologise for that title. That was the best I could come up with at 7:30am. :)

Secondly, I have opted to do away with trying to blog about all my travels in order from the start. I will catch up on them all eventually, but for now, I will blog about where I am at the time so that everything is fresh.

Now... Indonesia! I have been here a few times in the past, but never had much of a chance to look around. It's one of those places where it seems if you aren't in a major population centre, you are in the middle of nowhere. But I suppose a lot of tropical Asia tends to be like that!

Get it India!.... Oh shit, get it outta me!!

After a year in the job, my company decided it was too expensive for me to be going to and from South Africa all the time. They hired a local guy to do the job, hence saving on flights. This left me needing a new region to take care of, and I was handed Asia.

I have always had a bit of an interest in Asia. I studied Japanese all through high-school and was lucky enough to go there twice; once on school exchange at the age of 16 and then again with my brother on holiday at the end of 2005. However, that was the extent of my travel in Asia, before starting this job.

My first trip with this company to Asia was to the mystical sub-continent of India...

As I mentioned in the previous post, this job has led to me spending a lot of time in South Africa. Throughout 2009, I went there an additional 4 times. This post is just for a few more photos taken throughout those trips.

I can honestly say that South Africa had never even registered on my radar as a place to which I would one day go. When my boss told me on the first day of my new job that I was to be assigned to South Africa as my initial region of responsibility, I said "I know absolutely nothing about it!" Luckily for me, I was going to be working with an ex-pat colleague from RSA, so that made getting used to the country a whole lot easier. This first time I went there was along with this colleague, and I have to say it was comforting to be there with a local!

Now, as I write this on 01 December 2014, I have been there 17 times. How things change!
