On our forty-forth morning of this crazy adventure, we jumped on a train to head to Brussels airport. Leaving behind the relaxed delights of Belgium, we pushed on to our next stop: Hamburg, Germany.
Arriving at the airport, we used the simple ticket machines to get a local train into the suburbs to the east of the city centre. Our accommodation in Hamburg was a very spacious studio apartment within a small complex. Oir host, Joao, was extremely kind and helpful, meeting us and showing us around before being on his way. The room featured a sizable bed, kitchenette, washing machine, TV, and a well equipped bathroom. So even if we didn't love the city on our visit, the accommodation was quite good!

Not any old washing machine, but a quality brand! Ahh, German engineers!! |
A spacious place to live for a couple of days. |
After settling in and relaxing for a while, we went for a walk around the local area, opting to leave the city centre until the next day. Wandering north to Lübecker street, we stopped in for a nice German lunch at Schweinske.
Ich bin ein süßes kleines Schweinchen! |
I was looking forward to a nice schnitzel, now that we were in Germany! Unfortunately, the quality here was just okay - not bad, but nothing to get excited about either.
Full of pork and carbs, we kept wandering the area and stopped in at a local supermarket to pick up some supplies. The local Penny had a good range and groceries, and even an innovative machine for recycling bottles and cans for a refund (like an automated version of what we have back home!).
Meat, glorious meat! |
Later that evening, Avy had a return of her cravings for Asian food. The problem was there was little to choose from in the way of noodles and soups in our area - we looked... in the rain! Eventually giving up, we decided that maybe the city centre might have more to choose from (but let's face it - we were a long way from The Orient...!).
